Founded as a 501c3 in 2006, the foundation has benefited thousands of less-fortunate children in the area. What once began as the Angier couple treating a few less-fortunate children to a Christmas spree grew exponentially. The number of children participating increased ten-fold since the Hughes’ inaugural shopping spree during 2002.
Something as simple as a smile can change a heart forever. To Make a Child Smile Foundation has one simple goal: Give children with no other reason to smile something to smile about.
To Make a Child Smile is dedicated to seeking out and assisting less fortunate children within our community and making a positive impact in their lives.
How You Can Help
The To Make a Child Smile Foundation currently receives donations from private sources, businesses, individuals, service organization, etc. and we also hold special fundraising campaigns each year.
If you wish to help make a child smile, there are many ways this can be done. You or your organization may sponsor one or more children for our annual shopping trip, or you can make a general contribution, knowing that 100% will benefit the child/children. You may also donate your time, money, or gifts.
United Way mobilizes communities to action so all can thrive. United Way of Lee County (UWLC) is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving Lee and Harnett Counties in central North Carolina. Since 1960, we've partnered with our local community to co-create solutions to people's most pressing challenges. We take a comprehensive approach, listening and responding to our community's needs. When we take action together, we can create change for all.
With our community partners, UWLC helps people build pathways out of poverty. Each year, more than 12,000 local residents access help from UWLC and our partners as they work toward self-sufficiency. Our Barrier Busters program, launched in 2022, has helped more than 165 hard-working people overcome obstacles that are keeping them from reaching their goals.
As part of a global network of more than 1,000 United Ways, UWLC helps to share innovations and create impact to improve lives. Together, we're helping communities grow stronger.
