What: World Crafts Fair - handmade gifts available from around the world - jewelry, home decor, kitchen items, toys, scarves, handbags, & Christmas ornaments

Where: Kennebec Baptist Church
9808 Kennebec Church Rd. Angier, NC

When: Saturday, November 5th
10 am- 1pm

Why: Before partnering with WorldCrafts, the artisans who created the art lived in poverty, not able or not knowing how to find an audience for their work. In desperation, some sacrificed their children’s education, lived in squalid housing, went without food, or even turned to slavery or prostitution. Even when their work did find an audience, it was often through large corporations that did not offer them a livable wage—but sold their superb work for a premium rate.

Established in 1996, World Crafts, a division of WMU, has sought out these artisans and provided an audience for their work. Each purchase benefits these talented people and helps remove them from their previous poverty or destructive lifestyles by providing them a sustainable income with dignity.

The Chamber Needs Your Help

Although it’s hot now, fall is just around the corner and September will be here before you know it. Every year on the second Saturday in September a BIG celebration takes place in Angier. Yep - The Crepe Myrtle Celebration. The Chamber of Commerce strives to make this celebration bigger and better each year and with your help it can become one of the “biggest” celebrations in our state!

Donate gift certificates and merchandise for the “Penny Social”

VOLUNTEER - it takes lots of volunteers to make this event happen - runners, game tenders, dunk tank volunteers, help with vendor setups/take downs and various others

This year The Chamber will be in the gazebo. We would like to set up a table to Showcase our Members! We would like you to bring by, mail or in some way get to us business cards, brochures, discount coupons or giveaways promoting your business. Unused items will be placed in our Chamber offices and displayed everyday.

Land Lines in Harnett County Currently Down

Nearly all land lines in Harnett County are currently down after a major fiberoptic line was cut.Residents can still call 911 using their cell phones without any issues, however residents who only have access to a land line are encouraged to get to their local fire department or EMS station in an emergency if possible, or get a neighbor with a cell phone to call 911. At this time, it is unknown when the necessary repairs will be completed to restore phone service.

Penny Social Coming Soon!
This year at the 2016 43rd  Crepe Myrtle Celebration, the Angier Chamber of Commerce will once again host the Annual Penny Social, an exciting event for the entire family.
WHAT IS IT:
Penny Raffles or Socials are special fund raising events dating back in origin to European countries where tickets were sold for a penny each. Hence the name penny social or penny sale. It combines the elements of both an auction and a raffle. The common factor is that the bidding is done with a ticket. You must be present at the drawing to win!
HOW DOES IT WORK:
Each participant buys a certain number of tickets for a set price. They then use those tickets to "bid" on a variety of donated items on "auction." They can bid as many tickets as they wish on each item they are interested in by depositing the tickets in a container assigned to that item. The items are displayed on tables or shelves and bidders walk around and browse the wares, bidding on favored items as they go.
It doesn't take long to figure out, of course, that the more tickets you bid on a "must have" item, the better your chances are of winning. Rather than going to the highest bidder, though, as it would at a regular auction, the item goes to the person whose ticket is drawn at random, from the container.
COST:
One $1.00 ticket sheet contains 25 individual tickets with the same number. That is 25 chances to win for $1.00! We will offer a special deal to those who purchase ten ticket sheets - ONE FREE SHEET! That is twenty-five more chances to win for free. Each ticket sheet contains one larger special ticket for entry in a grand door prize which is yet to be determined.
WHAT KIND OF ITEMS:
Penny social items can run the gamut from inexpensive, trinket-type things all the way up to items worth hundreds of dollars. There will be items for the entire family. Spa packages and home décor item for mom. Auto packages and tools for dad. Toys and games for kids. Entertainment and dining packages for the entire family. The possibilities are endless and are only limited by your creativity. And those are donated items, of course!
SPECIAL ITEMS OF INTEREST:
There will be a special item created just for our Penny Social. There will be Crepe Myrtle Money Trees  unique to our event. The trees will be clay pot fake trees designed to hold MONEY! They will hold contributions ranging from $25 to $100. Individual trees may be donated by anyone. Any festival sponsor donating $250 will also not only receive posted and announced notice, but their sponsorship will also include a $25 money tree in their name. $500 sponsors will receive a $50 money tree and $1000 sponsors will receive a $100 money tree to be included in the raffle. The trees  will be held for future Raffles after the money is removed. Contrary to popular belief, money does grow on trees! Crepe Myrtle tress that is!
HOURS:
Items will be available for viewing at 10am the day of the event. Tickets may be purchased at that time. No advance sales. Bidding or ticket placement continues until 3pm. At 3pm the ticket drawings begin starting with item #1 and ending with the drawing of the grand prize ticket. Remember, you must be present to win! That is what keeps or gives a reason for your attendees to remain at, or return to, your event.
DONATION DEADLINE:
We would like to receive your donation no later than Wednesday, August 31, 2016. Not that we will turn away last minute donations. We want to allow time to purchase items for those merchants who wish make cash contributions as opposed to actual inventory items from their business, and also for publicizing the event to create as much excitement as possible.
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS:
Your Chamber works to promote economic growth in business and industry. It also works to improve the quality of life of community life and promote moral ethic practices in the conducting of business, education, and government. The funds from this raffle will be used to sponsor community events and help support the daily operational cost of the Chamber.
WHO TO CONTACT:
THE ANGIER CHAMBER OFFICE: 919-639-2500

Chamber Spotlight

This week the Chamber highlights Cape Fear Christian Academy and Solid Rock Ministries.

Cape Fear Christian Academy was organized in 1969, making it the oldest private school in Harnett County. A small group of businessmen with godly convictions sought to establish a Christian school for their children and others in the community. They wanted the school to provide an education that incorporated the Bible and Christian values into the academic curriculum. Four decades later, the school maintains its Christian heritage and continues to hold weekly chapel services for its faculty and students. The Academy is a private school that in some ways functions like many traditional schools. It enforces a regular and continual attendance record and offers athletics, pageants, a collegeprep curriculum, and student leadership and training. But Cape Fear Christian also offers its own unique activities, such as fall festivals, the senior classic basketball tournament, breakfasts with Santa and the Easter Bunny, raffles, daily devotions, and weekly Chapel. The present facilities were built in 1971 on five acres of land located in the southeast corner of Harnett County. A new elementary building was added in 2000 to accommodate the growth of enrollment. In 2007 the school bought land which is now used for a soccer field, a softball field, and a field house. CFCA graduated its first class in May 1976 and continues to provide the community with well rounded leaders. Join them for their annual Hawaiian Luau including the Isaiah 40:31 5K, 1mile fun run, 100 yard dash and reverse raffle on April 30th. This event is open to all ages! There will be inflatables and games for children to enjoy! Meal tickets are included in the reverse raffle ticket purchase as well as most sponsorship packages. Additional tickets are available for purchase. Cape Fear Christian Academy is located at 138 Erwin Chapel Rd, Erwin and can be reached by calling (910) 8975423.

Would You Like a Chance to Win $10,000?

The Buddy Backpack Program of Harnett County is currently selling tickets for a chance to win a grand prize of $10,000 to be given away on Saturday, April 30th. The Buddy Backpack Program of Harnett County - Angier Area - started in July 2010 with North Harnett Primary School, Angier Elementary, and Lafayette Elementary. In 2011 Buies Creek Elementary was added to the schools they serve. Buddy Backpack of Harnett County’s goal is to have all of the Harnett County Elementary Schools in the program in the next two years. The program is designed to provide food to children identified by school staff who have little or nothing to eat over the weekend. Children are identified with input from teachers, teacher assistants, social workers, school nurses, and guidance counselors as candidates for the program. Once the identification process is completed, letters are sent home to obtain permission from the parent/guardians for the child to participate and for the parent/guardians to list food related allergies. The program strives to maintain the dignity and anonymity of the participants. The cost to purchase a ticket is $100 which includes two steak dinners. For more information about how to purchase tickets, please contact Glenda McLeod at (919)639-4862.

Harnett County Parternership for Children Launches "Believe" Campaign

As the holiday season approaches, we hope many of you will share wonderful memories this year surrounded by your family and friends.

In the spirit of giving this holiday season, the Harnett County Partnership for Children has launched the "Believe" Campaign. The "Believe" Campaign asks the local community to "Believe" in giving the gift of early literacy to children.

This Holiday Season they ask you to kindly consider sponsoring a child or children for participation in the Imagination Library Program. At an annual cost of $30.00 per child, they hope to have at least 1,000 children sponsored by June 30, 2016.

Help us this year teach our children to "Believe" in the magic of reading by sponsoring them to participate in the program.

Forever In Our Hearts Foundation was established out of a deep love of community and desire to help families devastated by the loss of a beloved child, teen, or young adult.

Many of the founding members know the anguish first-hand. These incredibly strong and dedicated individuals have lost a child.

Their staff of volunteers share a bond. They are determined to be there for grieving parents.

Annual Crepe Myrtle Penny Social

This year at the 42nd Crepe Myrtle Celebration, the Angier Chamber of Commerce will host the 5th Annual Penny Social, an exciting event for the entire family.

You may be asking yourself, how does it work? Each participant buys a certain number of tickets for a set price. They use those tickets to “bid” on a variety of donated items on “auction.” They can bid as many tickets as they wish on each item they are interested in by depositing the tickets in a container assigned to that item. The items are displayed on tables or shelves and bidders walk around and browse, bidding on favored items as they go. It doesn’t take long to figure out, of course, that the more tickets you bid on a “must have” item, the better your chances are of winning. Rather than going to the highest bidder, though, as it would at a regular auction, the item goes to the person whose ticket is drawn at random from the container.

One $1.00 ticket sheet contains 25 individual tickets with the same number. That is 25 chances to win for $1.00! Each ticket sheet also contains one larger special ticket for entry in a grand door prize.

You must be present at the drawing to win!

Alan met a friend who owned a dry cleaning business and it sparked his interest to start his own. Alan started A Cleaner Tomorrow in 2011, and is very proud to be the only certified dry cleaner in Harnett County. In November 2011, A Cleaner Tomorrow received the Dry Cleaning Institutes "Seal of Approval". The award required numerous tests and qualifications for Alan to meet, and there are only 140 dry cleaners in the world who have received this award. His mission was to create a safe, clean, and customer oriented dry cleaning facility and laundromat. The laundromat boasts two of the largest washing machines in Harnett county. Stop by A Cleaner Tomorrow and meet their friendly and caring staff today! They can be reached by calling (919)639-6396. Thank you to A Cleaner Tomorrow for supporting the Chamber and for your outstanding and loyal service to our community!
