SUMMARY:Summer Camp with Sew There
DESCRIPTION:In this week-long camp\, the campers will get to know their sewing machine\, learn to press with an iron and learn to use a rotary cutter safely.  We will start with a hand sewing project (a fruit pincushion) and go over a few hand stitches. Then we will begin to create straight stitch projects like a pencil roll-up holder\, a hair twisted headband\, and a pillowcase. We will learn how to put in a zipper and make a zippered pouch. We will learn to sew some layers with batting and create several placemats and make some mug rugs from selvages.  And we will create a boxed corner reversible tote bag and create an apron. With all of these projects we will reinforce the techniques to learn our machines\, how to operate them safely and best practices with a rotary cutter and an iron. The camp is open to any student ages 10 and up. \nBring a sack lunch\, a working sewing machine\, some notions (sewing scissors\, a seam ripper and some empty bobbins) for us to use over the course of the camp. Tuition is $260 which includes all the materials for all 9 projects.  \nThe camper will be able to pick their materials out for each project over the course of the week. The fabric requirements are: \n\n\nHand sewing Pincushion: felt and stuffing (provided) \n\n\nPencil case: 2 fat quarters and a piece of canvas and some elastic. \n\n\nTwisted Headband- 1 Fat Quarter \n\n\nPillow Case: ¾ yard for the main body\, ¼ yard for the cuff. \n\n\nZippered pouch: 2 coordinating Fat Quarters\, a piece of fusible foam. \n\n\n3 Place mats: 2 coordinating ½ yard cuts\, batting scraps \n\n\nMug Rugs- selvages- provided. \n\n\nReversible Tote Bag- 1 yard of toweling\, 1 yard of lining\, pocket fabrics\, 1 yard of webbing for handles\, piece of fusible interfacing for pocket linings. \n\n\nApron from a panel (sale panels) \n\n\nWe are excited to offer our beginning camp twice this summer! DESCRIPTION:Thursday Nights 5:00-8:00 March 20\, April 3\, 17\, and May 1– This 4-part beginner-friendly quilting class focuses on basic skills. First\, you’ll learn to practice safe and efficient rotary cutting. Then we’ll test your 1/4″ seam allowance markings. You’ll learn the basics of strip-piecing for speedy Nine Patch construction. We’ll square up the blocks and assemble them in rows. I’ll give you my best tips for adding borders\, and we’ll walk through basting your quilt sandwich of top\, batting\, and backing. We’ll talk about simple machine quilting strategies\, and I’ll demonstrate applying binding with mitered corners by machine.
