31st ANNUAL CREPE MYRTLE CELEBRATION
With the planting of Crepe Myrtle trees in the 1920s
and 1930s, the Town of Angier has become known at the Town of Crepe
Myrtles. Since 1974, the town has celebrated the Crepe Myrtle with
a day of food and fun. The first Crepe Myrtle Festival, as it was
called, was held at Angier High School athletic field as an Independence
celebration. The festival evolved over the years to today’s
Crepe Myrtle Celebration, which is held in Depot Square.

The Chamber sold t-shirts and other items |

The Festival was a huge success and people from
all over came to celebrate and have fun. |

Food was plentiful! |

People came and relaxed, watched the shows, had fun with their
children at the children's area and petting zoo, and shopped
the vendor's tents. |

Local vendors as well as out of town vendors had something to
offer. |
Angier's Mayor Wanda Gregory participated in the fun by painting
hair with Angier Librarian Terri Brooks |

A little girl laughs with delight at the outcome of her hairpainting
session. |

Entertainment varied from country singers to square dancers
and gospel singing. |

The children's petting zoo was very popular. |

There were lots of fun rides like the dolphin jumping bin. |

The Harnett Schools showed off their stuff with cheerleading
and bands. |
